csdragon asked: Coming back to your strengths and weaknesses, how do you think you compare to Bowman. Not "who's better", but like, where do you think you outshine him, and where he bests you?
Bowman is better at production than me, especially mixing. This is clear in his usage of EQ and reverb - everything sounds tight and clear, without being dry.
His arrangement skills are very good - everything always sounds professional, nothing sounds out of place. The variety of textures he works into his songs is great, too. His songs have nice structure, variations in intensity and feel, and always seem like they’re the right length rather than too short or too long.
Needless to say, he’s also better at writing lyrics and singing than I am, and his recording capabilities lend a live feel to his songs that I can’t approximate through MIDI.
If Bowman and I had the same ideal style, I have no doubt his songs would be better, because I don’t think there are many technical skills that I’m better than him at. (unless someone has an example?)
However, we don’t have the same ideal style. WHICH allows me to be much better at one thing: Making songs that I personally want to make. I have a lot to improve at, but that’s a very important factor.
